Dear High School Senior Parents or Guardians:

Bless you and congratulations on making it this far with your graduating high school senior(s). The closer it gets to graduation the more stressful it seems to get. While the objective of the Toni P. Farmer Scholarship Committee is to oversee the awarding of scholarships for the Allen Chapel AME Church family, we also wish to assist you and your graduating senior plan for this last high school year by helping with preparations for graduation and plans for seeking higher education.

During School Year 2019 - 2020, information will be provided concerning technical and business schools, scholarships, financial aid, graduation requirements, and senior year expectations. This information will be disseminated during a series of workshops and activities that have been planned for you and your high school senior(s). An initial orientation workshop will be held to meet and greet all graduating seniors and their parents or guardians. Parents and/or guardian attendance is encouraged at this workshop. During the year, other workshops will be held that focus on college requirements, applications, college life and testing. Graduating seniors will be awarded points for attending each workshop. These points will factor into the total number of points awarded to each graduating senior when the final amounts of scholarship funds are determined and awarded.

The proposed schedule of planned workshops and activities are:

• Initial Scholarship Committee Meet and Greet - September 15, 2019
• Personal Statement - October 27, 2019
• Financial Aid/Scholarship Workshop - January 10, 2020
• Scholarship Application Workshop - March 29, 2020
• School Spirit Day - Date TBD
• Scholarship Sunday School and Final Workshop – June 28, 2020

Additionally, we ask that you take an active role in our only fundraiser activity - the annual Toni P. Farmer Scholarship Committee Prayer Breakfast, March 14, 2020. It will be held at Martin’s Camelot, 13905 Central Avenue, Upper Marlboro, MD 20774 from 9:00 a.m. to noon. Each graduating high school senior’s family is asked to purchase at least on table of 10 tickets to support this activity.

Finally, the members of the Toni P. Farmer Scholarship Committee look forward to working with you and your graduation high school senior(s) as we continue to provide financial support and opportunities to young people desiring to further their academic development by attending institutions of higher learning.
